What Path Is Keeping You Busy?

Good morning…

It seems like I have been on every other week schedule with Coffee & Chat, but not intentionally. Last weekend I was blessed to be able to travel to Philadelphia, visit my son and take in a baseball game. Wonderful time, and it is such a blessing to be a father. With that in mind, I would like to wish a very Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!

Yesterday Doug and I capped off a great week of fitness with a 3-mile run. Our week had already consisted of three high intensity interval training workouts. While we both were pleased with that, we both want to get our running back going. I am still in search of a bike, with a goal of varying my cardio training.

Have you noticed the most often used word in most people’s response to “How are you doing?” I bet 9 out of 10 times, within the response, I will here the word “busy.” I feel like we have fallen victim to our own life mismanagement. My priorities in life are (in order) God, spouse, family and self. Note what is not among my top priorities, friends, work or even NFLF. With God at the top, I feel I stay grounded in who I am and avoid getting on wrong paths and helps me with my other important priorities.

This subject of being busy is not intended to be a sermon on God, but more about the concept of understanding the pitfalls of being “busy.” Whatever your own list of life’s priorities is (and you should have one), you should not sacrifice it for being busy. Easier said than done, I understand all to well. But, I also understand sacrificing my core values may seem okay at the moment, but eventually I lose what really matters most.

While my list of priorities has “me” below other priorities, that does not mean I neglect myself. On the contrary, what it means is, I must decide if I am off my path of priorities and neglecting to take care of health, wellness and other important aspects of taking care of me. As I said, my number one priority is God, so I try to make sure I stay active daily in that relationship. If I focus on “me” before God, my life now changes and “me busy” becomes contrary to my values and my life loses its direction.

The next time you respond with the word “busy,” stop and think about why you are so busy? I hope it is because you are following a path that is guided by the values and priorities you have determined to be most important. I listened to a podcast that said: “Our destination is determined by the path we are on, not by our intentions.” (Andy Stanley)

Hope you enjoyed my bit of philosophical introspect and maybe it will help you declutter the busyness in your life! Now you may have time for that all important resistance training! ??

God Bless!

Mike
