Sunday Coffee & Chat: Welcome October!

Sunday, September 30, 2018 · Mike Davis

Good morning!

Hard to believe today marks the end of September. As we move into the first week of October, my schedule gets a bit hectic. For the third year in a row NFLR will be race directing the Dover Apple Harvest Days 5K. Next Saturday’s race will kick off a local favorite festival featuring many local runners as well as college and high school athletes.

Last year’s race featured a young budding star Adian Cox, who’s Dad is the Cross-Country coach at Coe Brown Academy. Cox finished the race in time of 16:43, good for second place overall. This young boy was all of 12 years of age when he crossed the finish line only 15 seconds behind the winner. Since witnessing young Adian, I have paid a bit of attention to some of the junior cross-country events and he has certainly continued his success. Not sure if he will be back again this year to AHD 5K, but I sure hope so.

With many great runners in the local area, AHD 5K brings out a very competitive field. While that is an exciting piece of this race, the part I like best is all the local families who have made this a tradition. Each year we see many of the same runners and often it is multiple family members. Even I have enjoyed this running the race with both my wife and my daughter. There is nothing more enjoyable than to run a race with a family member.

Looking ahead the forecast looks fantastic for the race, but regardless this race is a wonderful event to be a part of. Running along Central Ave and then along some challenging hills, provides a great New England feel. About the time the race ends, the aroma of the Apple Harvest Day festival takes over and the feel in the air is magical!

If you are waiting to register for the race, there is some great incentive to register before the online opportunity ends. Anyone who registers online will be eligible to win one of two Apple watches being raffled off.Do not wait to register, go to: http://www.lightboxreg.com/apple-harvest-day-5k-2018?func=&mobile=0 now! (Participation is not necessary to win.)

So lots of great reasons to come on out to the 2018 Apple Harvest Day 5K and enjoy New Hampshire’s best New England race! Be sure to come say hi!

God Bless and have a great week!

Mike
