Sunday Coffee & Chat: Make a Difference
Sunday, September 16, 2018 · Mike Davis
Good morning
I have been chatting over coffee for quite a few years now and I have at various times chatted about races that I enjoy or supported the charitable cause. Many readers of this weekly chat know a great friend of mine, Lew Ricker who is an inactive member of the NFLR family. One of the reasons Lew became inactive was to become involved with the “House of Hope,” a home for individuals and families that need physical, emotional and spiritual assistance. NFLR’s loss definitely was the House of Hope’s gain.
This is copied directly from the “House of Hope” website:
Hope changes everything…
House of Hope is a safe place for those with a need to receive nourishment for the body, heart, and soul. Our location is strategically situated between two under-served communities – Somersworth, NH and Berwick ME. The ministry operates a full operational soup kitchen, food pantry and with the intent of growing into a deeper and broader scope as opportunity presents.
I have been really proud of Lew for the selfless work he and all the volunteers do to help many less fortunate people. The House of Hope is not a government funded organization and thus all means of support come from public donation, and other fund raisers. Between helping individuals, acting as a free restaurant to the community and having a food pantry available to those in need, the House of Hope, a wonderful blessing to this lacking community.
On October 13th, the “House of Hope 5K Run” will once again happen. This will be the third year of this local race and it has been somewhat of a challenge to get the word out to the Seacoast running community. There are a lot of races that compete for our hard-earned money, but there are few that support a worthier cause. This race starts at the Vivian E. Hussey School in Berwick and is the perfect small-town New England race. This year’s race proceeds will be used to help with the building of a much-needed youth center. Be a part of something special and then go by the House of Hope and see what your participation helped to do! Go to: https://houseofhopemission.org/purpose-run-5k/ for more information about the House of Hope and the race.
I wish I could run in this race and support one of the best causes on the Seacoast, but because my leg is still healing, I will hopefully see you there as a volunteer! Come run and say hi to Lew and I!
Have a great week and God Bless!
Mike
