Friday Intervals are back!

Good morning!

Grab your coffee and pull up a chair.

This morning, I am going to do some quick intervals around whatever comes to mind!

This past Wednesday morning I did my intervals on a treadmill at Planet Fitness. For some reason, I like doing intervals on a treadmill. I won’t say it is cheating, but treadmills definitely help to maintain a pace. Wednesday night, we had our NFLR training group meet at the Dover high school track for an interval workout. I am not so sure they enjoyed the workout as much as I enjoyed mine. Great night regardless and a good step in their progress.

Yesterday, I ran Doug MacKinnon’s favorite route in Rochester. Holy cow, was it hilly and it beat me down! I did a 60 minute out and back run and I really believe the it was only uphill’s both ways. Pretty horse farms and fairly peaceful, which are two of my favorite attributes of a running route. Will definitely run it again, but will be better prepared mentally for the long and steep hills. Good training for Reach the Beach 2018!

Tomorrow, I will down in Portsmouth to run the Market Square 10K. I honestly cannot remember when was the last time I actually ran it? Over the past 5 years, I have mostly been on the course cheering on training groups that I was part of helping. Should be fun for me and I look forward to seeing many friends down there. Market Square is a unique race in that it gets a lot of local support and of course it is a lot of fun to run around beautiful Portsmouth. The weather looks great, so it will be a fun morning!

Pretty cool thing happened just a few minutes ago. A longtime friend who is has run longer than me and probably a lot more miles, text me this: “I’m an inflexible jerk; is resistance training right for me?” I responded by saying: “Yes and a must!” and “I’m proud of you for figuring it out!” This friend has been someone that I enjoyed over the years and now that we are retired, we are helping each other grow as men. His asking for my opinion about his fitness, is no small thing and shows our ever growing trust in each other.

Monday night at 6 PM, I will be at the Dover high school track to run some repeats (intervals). If you want to join me, bring some water, and show up ready to have fun! The goal is not to beat me or chase me, but to run your own pace and improve your efficiency.

That about wraps up the intervals. Thanks for hanging with me this morning. Have a great weekend and maybe I will see you in Portsmouth!

God Bless!

Mike
