Chit Chat and a Heads Up!

Good morning!

I hope you had a great long weekend and celebrated Independence Day in style. I was blessed to spend the 4th with my mother and though we were not really celebrating, we did have a wonderful day.

I continue to let my calf tear heal and I believe that it is progressing. My hope is that by next Monday, I can go for an easy run, but I won’t risk it, if I am not 100 percent sure the soleus is ready. I am doing well with my strength training and morning posture routine (3 plus weeks of not missing a day), and today I may go to the gym and do some type of cardio. Injuries can be frustrating, but there are always alternatives that we can do, that help with our fitness as even improve our running. Posture and core strength are both important components of healthy and strong running, but while I preach to our NFLR clients, I have not always followed my own instruction. At least as far as my posture.

Great opportunity!

With our current training group in its final weeks, we now look forward to the “White Mountain Milers Half Marathon” training group! This will be NFLR’s third year of preparing all levels of runners to either run a 5K, 10K, or a half marathon. Three years ago, Kathy and I went up to North Conway and tackled the half marathon and it may have been my most enjoyable race ever. The following year, NFLR decided to set up a training group that could accommodate not only those that want to train for a half marathon, but also either a 10K or a 5K. This wonderful event offers distances for all levels and we have a single training group that will prepare for all three distances. Not only is this event about a great scenic race, but we also get a great price on a hotel to stay the night before and we get together for a group dinner. Truly more than just a race! Over the next week, more details will be forthcoming and a chance to sign up.

Today, I have another interview for a local paper that wants to talk about internet training plans versus personal training plans. If you have been around Coffee & Chat, you know I am not a fan of a plan that is not specific for a runner, so I guess I am a good one to talk with about the differences. Always fun to chat about running and educate on why things matter.

That is it for today. Thanks for having coffee with me and I hope you have a great finish to this holiday week!

God Bless!

Mike
