Catching Up

Good morning!

Grab some coffee and pull up a chair.

This morning I was up at 4:15am, as I made plans to meet a guy from church to run. I am pretty sure we agreed to 5am at the Dover Planet Fitness, but I was the only one there. After waiting a bit, I decided that I would had back to Rochester. Yes, I could have run, but since I will be running tonight with our NFLR training group, and I ran a pretty hard interval workout last night, I decided to pass on a run. Not sure what happened to my friend but, I am sure we will hook up in the future.

Not trying to sound boastful, but my final grades for my two classes were both A’s! Pretty cool experience as well as challenging at times. I learned a lot and most definitely will be a better running coach because of the classes. There is always a possibility of continuing with similar classes, but not sure at this point. I was blessed with a great teacher as well as support from my wife, that made a huge difference. Thank you Kathleen!

Last night Doug and I hit the track for some repeats and it was not fun! Neither one of us were feeling particularly motivated or energetic and Doug even suggested going for a milkshake instead. We did not go the route of the milkshake and I decided to change things up in-order to speed up the workout. With neither one of us wanting to run long intervals, I had us run 400mm intervals, with only 200mm recoveries. While the shorter intervals were less taxing, the short recoveries provided a challenge as we progressed. I am not particularly fond of 400s for repeats, unless the goal is a faster 5K time however, decreasing the recoveries is a great way to maximize the training effectiveness. With a goal of staying in zone 4 (anaerobic/glycoses as fuel) for most of each interval, we were able to accomplish that by minimizing or recovery time. The great thing about intervals, is that you can vary them and still get the same desired training affect or vary them to target other training affects. Great training tool!

A few weeks ago, I was really pleased with my weight and my diet. Now I am not so pleased and I am determined to get back to better eating habits. For me, weight gain is pretty much about breads and sweets. If I do not manage those two things, I will see a rise in my weight and things start to fit a little less loser. Couple a poor diet with less than consistent training and things start to go the wrong direction. I am going back to weekend deserts only and monitor my breads as well. It will always be a battle for me to get and stay where I want to be with my weight.

Well, that is all the chat I have this morning. I hope you have a great Wednesday!

God Bless

Mike
