Catching up and SMR

Good morning!

Hope that you are enjoying your weekend. The highlight and priority of my weekend is worship service and after having come from there, I can honestly say, I am ready to take on the week ahead! Combine that, with a much better past week of running and I would have to say, “life is good”! Feed the soul, spirit, and body.

When I say, “a much better week of running”, in reality, it did not take much to do that. I ran 4 days, and a total of nearly 20 miles, which may not impressive, but is a good place for me to progress from. Friday evening I ran around Dover, enjoying the mild temperature and the familiarity of the roads and trails. Germany will always be my most favorite place to run, followed by North Conway, but Dover is right up there as well.

Yesterday I had the honor of running with Jean from our NFLR training group and she was a delight to run with. Her attitude about running fits perfectly with our NFLR philosophy and that is great for her as well as us. It is always nice to have people join our training groups that embrace running as a lifetime activity, meant to be enjoyed. Jean and I had some really great conversations, though she probably wondered if this guy ever shuts up! Fun morning of running, followed by coffee and a bagel with the NFLR coaches outside at Bagel Grounds in Dover.

Yesterday afternoon Jen and I spent over 2 hours with Linnae Selinga our newest client, doing a gait analysis. Without a doubt, I believe a running form analysis (gait analysis) is one of the greatest resources that NFLR offers. Linnae came away with 3 simple changes to focus on and in doing so, she will become a more efficient and stronger runner. I have no doubt when we video her in 3 to 4 months, we will see some great improvement! I talk a lot, but in the end, we narrow it down to 3 primary changes and it mostly requires neurological focus. While we certainly need to strengthen many neglected muscles, but just as important, we need to consciously lift and push, until it becomes automatic (muscle memory). It takes work and Linnae will find that out, but with guidance, improvement can be amazing.

The week ahead will be another fun one. Hope to get a run in tomorrow, a track workout on Tuesday and the Wednesday, we have our NFLR training group. This Wednesday evening, I will give a short info-session on “Self-Myofascial Release”. Essentially, I will talk about and demonstrate foam rolling! Great tool that is highly under-utilized and yet needs to be a part of every runner’s life. Come on down to the 7th Settlement at 6pm and then we will walk across to Henry Law Park and take about 15 minutes to go over SMR. Then join us for a run!

Time to get going. Have a great finish to your weekend and a super week!

God Bless!

Mike
