A Couple Reminders

Good morning!
The past week was a bit off for me. I have been had some type of virus since Wednesday and it has continued through this weekend. Yesterday I had my running stuff on, my stretching done and was ready to hit the road but, I didn’t feel good at all, so no go. Hopefully after church I will get some type of run in. Overall, this past week was a step in the right direction despite not feeling well.
Running certainly makes a difference in my overall health.
Earlier last week I had a full check-up and once again, I am in excellent health, with all my vital numbers being off the chart positive. Not to come across as bragging, because that is not at all my point. I am grateful that between regularly running, watching my diet and some strength training, I am able to keep my weight down and my overall health really good. My goal is not to live forever, but I do want to be as healthy as I can while I am alive. Once upon a time I was not in very good shape and thankfully, with a good partner, I was able to turn things around. It is all about little steps or making that 2-degree change in my life. For me it was reducing bread, ditching Pepsi and becoming more of a runner. Eventually that 2-degrees webbed out to other changes, such as vastly reducing my deserts and staying away from fast food places. I still struggle at times and I have to remind myself eating far too many sweets and that will forever be my weakness.
This past week we brought on a new client and during our consultation I was reminded of some of the little details that we all need to keep in our routine. Namely, foam rolling. Most of use a foam roller sporadically and treat it as a remedy more often than not. Self-myofascial release is the technical term for foam rolling and how could you not see the value of it with a technical term like that! If that is not enough incentive for you, how about benefits like better range of motion, less tightness, and better overall movement. All are important benefits for our running and for daily functioning. Another reminder is our daily sitting routine. Many sit for extended periods and those adductors and quadricep muscles all shorten and stay in that state. Set your phone to remind you to stand up every 30 minutes and take a walk for a couple of minutes. Also, do some standing lunges, which definitely will get those muscles back to a happy length. Little things that will help us run and function better.
Time to get along to church. Have a great Sunday and thanks for having coffee with me!
God Bless!
Mike
